B-24s of the 307th Mar 1944

Hi, Im trying to gather information about the plane that my grandfather flew. He was a Col. in the 307th, Robert F. Burnham, and I believe his plane was called "Fuzzy Wuzzy". Other than that I am haveing a hard time finding specifics about his plane, model, nose art, crew...etc. If anyone has any information, id be much grateful .

Thanks

I don't have much for you but will pass along what I have from a quick check. In March 44 the 307th was flying model J of the B-24. On 10 Feb 44 your grandfather's crew was credited with two probables during a mission over Rabaul. At the end of March 44 the 307th began to target Truk Island.

There is a considerable amount of information up now on Pat Ranfranz's website:

    www.missingaircrew.com

For example, a quick search produced the following:

    07FEB44     One Zeke            A/C 463     Image 00902 (missingaircrew.com image number)
    10FEB44     Two probables   A/C 809     Image 00896
    12FEB44     Mission              A/C 809     Image 00892
    14FEB44     Mission              A/C 809     Image 00886

He flew A/C normally flown by other pilots, I imagine he got his choice though.

23JUL44     CO 307th BG     Lt. Col. Burnham
    - he was promoted somewhere in between these dates
14SEP44     CO 307th BG     Col. Burnham

Several photographs of the CO dedicating new facilities appear in images:
