Father's Military Records

MY late Father was in the USAAF during World War II. I know he attended flight training over at Griffin, GA. How can I locate his military records, including the hours he flew.

THANKS !

    Thanks!
His name was Karl D. Sanders, Jr., hometown-Eatonton, GA. He flew Stearmans for a while over at Griffin, GA. That is about all I know. I did find his "Ruptured Duck" medal, that was issued to servicemen when they were released from service,  in his safety deposit box after he passed away.

When you go to the National Archive Military Personnel Records you will need a service number or SSN.  If you know places he was stationed it really helps if you send a letter, along with the form that you will fill out, listing the places you know he may have been stationed.   Because of the fire they frequently have to go outside the archives to reconstruct the records.   Was he retired from the Air Force?

You also might check the County Records of his Home of Record at thetime of seperatation in 1945.
Many servicemen recorded thier Certificate Of Discharge in hte County as some were paid a Bonus for WW II service...I was paid from the State of Ohio, for WWII, and later for Korea.

Here is the link I’m using to recover my father’s service records, similar to a previous post but I believe different. As stated in previous posts there is specific data you’ll need to file. As you are a descendent you may be about to file online as I did. I would suggest a dry run to see all the pertinent data you will need. Collect anything missing if possible from relatives and come back armed with all the proper info. As Jim suggested above county records can be an extremely valuable source for data that relatives may not have.
