Ernie, If you want some history of the two a/c just go to the AIRCRAFT by Name section on the DATABASE pages on the website www.100thbg.com and enter the first few letters of the name. Also go to the MACR section for the report on Capt. Murphy's crew, and for aircraft photos just enter their names on the SEARCH section and all pages for the ships will come up. Should assist you abit in whatever your looking for. Jack

My Uncle S/Sgt Michael Rotz was on the original crew of one of these( I believe Murphy's Crew). I am not sure i can help much more. He was shot Down 68 years ago today flying on another B-17. A jeep/truck accident knocked him out of being able to fly. It saved his life as the entire Crew was killed when he was unable to fly. Michael Drew Rotz

Hi Michael, your uncle (TAPS,Feb.1963) went down with the 2nd Lt. Lucious G. Lacy crew, see the post below by the son of a crew member on that crew on this 100th BG FORUM page reference the 42-31389 LUCIOUS LUCY topic. The Capt Murphy crew http://www.100thbg.com/mainpages/crews/crews4/murphy.htm did have survivors that were captured and became POW's until liberated. Can you pick out your uncle in their crew photo? Capt Murphy's remains were removed from the German cemetery after the war and returned to the United States at the request of the family and is buried in Waltham,MA,check the websites www.100thbg.com STATESIDE cemetery pages for a photo of his grave. Jack

Michael, You are correct, Your Uncle was on the Original crew but was in the hospital from injuries sustained in a jeep accident when Capt Murphy and Piccadilly Lily was shot down over Bremen on Oct 8, 1943.
