PLT B-17

Hi,  yesterday I had the pleasure to meet and talk (for only a couple of minutes) with a former B-17 pilot who frequents the base where I am assigned.  I've seen his car there alot as he shops the BX/Commissary etc.  Well, I lucked out and actually saw him park next to me at the convenience store on base.  We only talked as we both walked inside.  He did tell me he was the pilot of 43-38009.  I looked up his tail number when I got home on my B-17 file and I don't have very much info about it.  Only that it was assigned to the 850 BS/490 BG, Square T, stationed at Eye Afld and was shot down on 13 Sept 44 MACR 8855.

I was wondering if any of you would have more info about the plane.  I didn't ask his name either nor was I able to get any more info such as crew members.   Didn't seem like the time or place to get into all that since he was also busy.
( He was there to get some beer.  lol)  Very nice man and wish we could have talked alot more.

Thank you

Mike (MSgt, USAFR)
