    John,

Lower B-17 is identified on photo tag as 42-37766.  Pretty blurry, hard to read.  Also attached is first page of MACR.

Hope this is helpful. No mention of a name for the A/C. Noticed you reside in Mississippi. I spent time in a couple SeaBee Battalions in Gulfport, Miss. Regards, Marc

    Marc,
Thanks for the info, I did not have any of this. According to the book "The Ball Gunner" written by Carol Edgemon Hipperson as told to her by Dale Aldrich, the ball gunner, the aircraft was named "Princess Pat", I have no other evidence of this, but he should have known, he was there. I live in the west central part of the state "The Delta".

I note the discussion on the forum pertaining to the B-17 Princess Pat.  You are welcome to add this fact if you wish:  the plane was named for the sister of the ball turret gunner and the wife of the pilot.  Other facts about the plane and its crew appear in my first book, The Belly Gunner (Twenty-First Century Books/Millbrook Press, 2001).  The Belly Gunner is based on notes I took during a long series of interviews with the plane's ball turret gunner, Dale Aldrich.  You can see the cover of the book on "The Belly Gunner" page on my website:  www.carolhipperson.com.  ----carol
