This is a "D" model. This picture is also on Dan Stockton's site at www.b24bw.proboards.com/index.cgi and another shot of it also.

This is the same as B24 Best Web but a much higher resolution scan. What aircraft was your brother associated with Vic?

Did you see the second photo? This plane was re-named "Fearless Freddie" after being transferred to the 446th BG.

My brother flew on 10 different planes during his 25 missions, but most on "Old Hickory" 42-73495. Was KIA on the 25th mission on 42-109832 "De-Icer".

I saw Old Hickory, but no pic of De-Icer. Do you have better pics of the planes your brother flew on? I realize that bombardiers in certain groups might fly different planes, but was he with the same crew. I've bookmarked your website and will investigate. It's pretty big and a lot of flash .But my computers pretty hefty.  Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

Gentalmen,
The Eager Beaver ship and crew were one of the 93rds originals leaving for England in Sept. 1942. Bill Gros ( radio operator) told me that the way the ship got it's name is that during a discussion between Frank Rinehart (Pilot) and rest of the crew on what it should be called. One of the guys had made a comment that "wel,l I don't know but we are a bunch of eager beavers aren't we!" The rest of the crew thought that that would make for a perfect name. The nose art was done Stateside and the rest is history. On a resent trip to Norwich, England Bill saw a great photo of the Eager Beaver in the Sencod Air Division Library there. Rinehart and Gros are still with us . Two of the best!

Just a heads up, I'll post a Google link with instructions for providing a means for adding a translation option to websites, whether English to a foreign language or vise versa. Refer to All Hands Club and Canteen, my post of 3/9/10.
