P-38 42-67164 information needed.

I am looking for information on a P-38 in a photograph I have seen.  The serial number on the tail is 67164 in large numbers.  I believe the full serial number would be 42-67164, the number on the nose is 300.  The photo was taken over Gaudalcanal and is an air to air shot.  Another P-38J serial number 42-67163 of the 347th FG was lost Jan 28, 1944 (MACR 1949).  It is my thoughts that 42-67164 was also with the 347th FG can anyone help with information on this P-38 and its pilot(s), etc.
