Fortress - The Film
Has anybody seen the 2011 film Fortress? Its about the B17's based in North Africa during WW2 on a bombing mission to Italy, Just started watching it and it looks pretty good so far, most of the aerial footage is computer generated but much better than Red Tails. Will give a completed review when its finished :D

Well after watching the rest of the film I have to say I am impressed, Plenty of footage from almost every angle. Air combat was better than Red Tails, showed alot more but it wasn't over in a flash; It gave you enough time to take it in and realised whats going on. I'd never heard of it untill I saw it on the movie page tonight, I's certainly watch it again.

Your welcome, I watched it again when I got home from work, Don't get me wrong, its not perfect, I found a few picky bits but I enjoyed it, by the looks of it most of it was filmed in a barn / warehouse from looking at the pictures on the Facebook site :D see what you make of it, will be interested in your views too :D

Karl.....Did you notice that in both the Red Tails and Fortress films, that the 15th AF B-17 Bomb Group shown in both films is the 99th Bomb Group...known as the Diamondbacks due to the Diamond Y insignia. Jim :-)

Hi Jim, Yes I noticed the Diamondbacks insignia, I thought it was great to see a USAAF themed film from a different perspective, I did find it strange as the crews complained about the heat and sand as opposed to the rain and mud in England. Have you seen the film Fortress, I'd love to know your take on it as I can see you are a hero from that campaign. Thanks again Jim :D

I checked on Amazon. The "Fortress" film will be available July 31 in the U.S. (but it can be pre-ordered). Hopefully it will be better than "Redtails" which I finally rented over the weekend. It looked like the only technical advisors they used were computer animation geeks. Marty

I checked Amazon.CO.UK and noted that its customers have rated it with a 2 out of a possible 5 stars. Subjective yes, but 2 of 5 ? Hmmm!! martyjhawk

2 out of 5 is a bit harsh, yes its all computer generated but it gives you a far better glimpse of what it must have been like flying formation whilst fighting off attacks, atleast with this film the fighting scenes last longer than a blink of an eye and you have time to take in whats happening, unlike red tails where its over in a flash. I would give it a 4.5 rating. I still enjoyed it and have saved it on my satelite planner so I can watch it again and again untill I order the DVD
