What is the Old Style tail gun position used on" Dimple Darling "

Was the Old Style used on " Dimple Darling" the predecessor to the Cheyenne Tail gun ?
What are straight across and staggered windows ?

    "Old Style"  or at least "Older Style" (there may have been several variations of the tail position).

    The straight across windows  positioned the two waist windows (left and right side) directly opposite each other.  When both gunners were in position they could easily interfere with each other as they were standing basically back to back.  Later model B-17 staggered the windows  (they were not set opposite each other).

    Staggered
    (In the first link the "gunners" don't look as"authentic" as the link above, but you get the idea.  Follow the ribs of the plane over the top.  It appears the windows were staggered one "rib" different.)   The left side window is further back toward the tail.

    The Cheyenne position was introduced on the production line from
    G-80-BO , G-50-DL and G-55-VE inclusive ( though many retro-fitted).
    Staggered windows from
    G-50-BO, G-50-VE snd G-25-DL.
    Camouflage discontinued part-way through blocks
    G-35-BO, G-15-VE, and G-35-DL.
    National insignia change to bars with blue borders ( in production ) from
    G-10-BO ( 42-31232) Oct. 1943, G-5-VE ( 42-39858) Sept. 1943, and G-20-DL (42-37894) Sept. 1943 . Existing red borders continued for some time in many cases ( except in Pacific-CBI).
