On Aug 1,1943 177 B-24s from the  44th ,93rd, 98th,376th and the 389th took part in "Operation Tidalwave ." Was this the Famous "Liberator " low level bombing Raid  against the  oil refineries in Ploesti ,Romania ?  What were the aircraft losses and the mission results?

Ernie, YES this is that famous low level raid code named Tidal Wave!  The attached link will give you ALL information on each individual plane and its crew all laid out in very clear format.  (It is too large to post here, however.) It does not include the individual target originally assigned to each group.  Here is the link: http://home.comcast.net/~skyscorpions/p_roster.htm  After reviewing this chart, you can go to the "Home Page" where the "battle plan" is laid out by BG.  This is a "Ploesti-specific Site" and is well worth the visit.  Also, for general info, more links, great pix and stories, there are several great links on this Site (search keyword: Ploesti will bring up several pages of leads) of which http://forum.armyairforces.com/tm.aspx?m=99748&high=ploesti is one of the longest running.  Happy hunting and enjoy the reads!

Ernie, Here is a "link" to a brief chart which is easily readable and complete on Operation "Tidal Wave" that I thought you and the Membership would find helpful.  Although an older chart, it answers your question directly. http://www.lipper.cc/8th_AF/pages/TidalWaveRoster.html
