August 1942 US aircraft loss in the AES

Hello,

Seeking details of the US aircraft that was/were lost on or before the 19th August 1942 in the AES.
Names of pilots were P/O. Elroy Fenwick Bent and P/O. Peter Hersey Wyman.
Both were RCAF men but lost in a USAF aircraft at or near to Wadi Sedina A/F.
I do not know but think it may have been a Ferry accident.

Many thanks
Alex

Alex, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission confirms that both airmen were killed 19 August 1942. Both are buried Khartoum War Cemetery. Darrell

Alex. Have you tried posting at http://www.rafcommands.com/ or http://www.rcaf.com/. Someone appears to be asking the same question on the RAF site. Not sure if the Book "They Shall Grow Not Old" will help. See: http://www.airmuseum.ca/membook1.html

Hi Alex - I am also looking for the same information as you regarding the US aircarft. ElRoy was my uncle and died in the war when he was 19, leaving behind 6 siblings and a wife. My cousin just told me that she looked through ElRoy's RFCA file and was surprised that ElRoy was in a US air carft. Of course the family would like to know what happened to him and why. If you have found any information or have any useful website you might be willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, Leslie Bent

The National WWII Memorial has 2 listings for Joseph N. Winkles.
Hopefully these links will be of assistance:

Hello ,
I feel that the above posts numbered "8" and "9" detract from the main thread and perhaps they should be placed elsewhere.
Thank you.

Hello Gregg,
Not really, but it is nice to see it in this more recent form, thanks.
However it does not help that the two posts about Joseph N. Winkles is in the thread about
P/O. Elroy Fenwick Bent and P/O. Peter Hersey Wyman who were lost at a different time and place.
