499 BG, 877BS

I'm reading my dad's letters from Saipan and have so many questions.  Does anyone know the names Al Rue, Patrick Goldstein, Ed Morrissey, Joe Shuh, or Earl Kading?  These are men/friends that my dad mentions often.  His capt. was Geer who made Major soon after leaving Saipan in June 45.  These letters and memories are priceless!  What an experience it has been to read them and type them up for my siblings and our children/grandchildren. Let me know if you know of these men or would like to know what my dad wrote about them.   Anita

    There is a Captain John H Geer  in the 877th Squadron listed in "The Unoffical Histroy of the 499th Bomb Group (VH). There is also a picture of the crew. I could try to scan it for you, but not sure of the quality.

    Anita, my uncle was on that same crew. Robert Webb, radio operator. Though some of the names you mentioned are not listed on the pictures I have, these names of the Geer crew are:
    John H. Geer, aircraft commander;
    John W. Iio (pronounced eye-oh, I believe), pilot;
    Joe Tierney, bombardier;
    Thomas Simpson, navigator;
    Richard Sheak, flight engineer.
    The above were the officers; the enlisted men were:
    Ronald Talbot, CFC gunner;
    Sanford Goldstein, right gunner;
    William Wiegers, radar operator;
    Alfred Rue, left gunner;
    Edward J. Morrissey, tail gunner;
    and Robert C. Webb, radio operator

    I have several pictures of the crew and their airplanes. Please send your e-mail and I will send them to you. I have quite a bit of other information about the crew, as well, if you are interested.
