Norman N. Williams, 422nd NFS

Hi,

I'm trying to find the number of the MACR for 2 Lt. Norman N. Williams.

2 Lt. Norman N. Williams is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten and his grave is adopted. At the moment we don't have that much information on him or his unit, so every little bit of info is more than welcome.

2 Lt. Norman N. Williams
ASN: O-887193
422nd Night Fighter Squadron
Entered the service from: California
Died: 12-Oct-1944
Awards: Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart

    Hi Nicole

the date points to P-61A-5-NO 42-5538 which was lost over Germany on 12th October 1944 - MACR # 9539 - the aircraft was nicknamed "Laura Lil"

Nicole this was mission  "A" 68B, number 52 with 7 P-61's on a defensive patrol under GCI

    # 38 Doyle and Williams were shot down around 1945 hours near Neustadt either by Flak or a German night fighter.  report mentions the name of the P-61 was Husslin Hussey

P-61's #  64, 58, 34, 90, 44 and 68 either aborted or ranked their sortie's uneventful in the area of Aachen, Duren and to the north and south.

    Hi Nicole,

i´m new in this forum, but reading about the P-61 " Laura Lil" .
I´ve found the crashsite from this P-61 a vew month ago, near a highway /Neuwied/ Germany.
the P-61 was lost 12.10.1944 by hitting trees and crashed in a forest near a bridge.
since today i´ve found more than 100 wreckparts from this airplane: dural parts, cockpit-parts, parts from weapons, engine-parts ,etc....
All this wreckparts are cleaned and saved by me, with doku and MACR.
if you want more informations...contact me please
    greets

    Hi there,

First of all, whow! Incredible that you were able to retrieve information and even planeparts.
I'm the father of Max (6) who's adopted the grave of Norman. I was in contact with one of Normans familymembers in LA California but unfortunately haven't heard much lately.
As a journalist for a Ducht newspaper (Dagblad de Limburger) I'm trying to write a story on Norman. On his life before WWII, entering the war and his last flight. Anything you have is very welcome :)
    Thanks a lot.

New to the forum but a long time student of WWII aviation. I have rescued from the trash heap the entire 1937-1944 archive of 2nd Lt. Norman Neale Williams of the 442nd N.F.S. His sole surviving son passed away in late 2011 with no heir. His caregiver/companion contacted me thru a mutual friend to act as agent for anyonne interested in the photos, medals, letters home, trohpies etc. Lt. Williams, and his Sons' search for the 1944 crash site were the subject of a documentary made in 2002 entitled "In the Footsteps of My Father".  These items were sought after by various museums but on the condition that the Son's caregiver catalog, pack, and ship the collection at her expense....not a task the bereaved woman was willing to do.
