    Hello Ian,

This sounds wonderful.  Me and Lisa are planning on attending.  If the dollar gets any worse I will have sell a kidney or something to afford the trip but we will make due.  Take care and thanks for everything you have done for the 305th BGMA - the group doesn't realize what a treasure they have in you and Bill.

    Hi all.
Update news on nex years 40th CW Reunion in UK

As plans are being finalised, as part of our planned celebrations, on Friday May 29th 2009, the group will be visiting as a privately organised group, onto what remains of the former home of the 92nd BG, Now home of the European Drag Racing Circuit SANTA POD. Members of the POD will welcome the group, explain how the site is used today, and all being well, give a demonstration of a Drag Racer to our group, thundering down the main runway as the B-17's once did 60 plus years ago. At the end of our visit, our tour bus will be given permission to leave the site via the same main runway, now the drag strip circuit.

Plans continue to be put in place for the remaining activities of this one day, part of the 10 day reunion.

Its now July, so time is creeping towards this important event!!

Hi all. Further update on next years reunion here in UK.
I made a personal visit to the 306th FTG, Flight Training Group, whilst at our own annual 305th reunion Colorado Springs. Lt Col. Greg Johnson of the 306th FTG has expressed interest in our gathering next year and so is workin on the idea of bringing a group of Instructor Pilots of the 306th, to be at our celebrations. All their instructors are seasoned AF combat Pilots, currently teaching the cadets at the AF Academy. As the present incarnation of the 306th BG 'First Over Germany', Johnson and his fellow instructors are keen to support this reunion. Plans are to bring with them an audio-visual show to explain just how the 306th today trains the USAF's next generation of pilots.

Whilst also at the 305th BG reunion I spent time discussing the 305th AMW, Air Mobility Wing, involvement next May. They too are looking into participating and if things work out they shall fly a training mission using one of their aircraft to the UK, making a flyby over the event!

So, all 92nd - 305th - 306th Veterans and their families take note. This will be a reunion you should not miss!!!

    Hi all...
Further news on next years tri group '40th Combat Wing UK Reunion' - see above previous posts.

CIVIC MAYORAL RECEPTION - BEDFORD TOWN - MAY 29th 2009. As part of the organised reunion trip we expect, subject to planning, to enjoy an evening as guests of his worship the Mayor of Bedford, Frank Branston, at a formal welcome reception at the Mayor's parlour. This will be to welcome back and recognise those of the wing, and the three groups involved in its combat operations; the 92nd, 305th and 306th BG's. It is quite an honour indeed to be welcomed in such a manner, and demonstrates immensely just how much the British people of the local region surrounding the former bases of Thurleigh, Podington and Chelveston, hold those veterans from the USAAF in such high esteem.

40TH CW CELEBRATION DAY - THURLEIGH FIELD - MAY 24th 2009. Paper requests have been raised at McGuire AFB, with requests to the CO of the 305th AMW, Colonel. Balan Ayyar, for their attendence at next year's events. We have every expectation that this will result in something rather spectacular.....

So, for everyone connected to the 40th CW, 305th BG, the 92nd, 306th or indeed havng a genuine interest in this piece of the 8th AF story, next year's 10 day reunion is something you should be considering. Whilst we are aiming this toward veterans and family of these units, we also welcome all others that may wish to join us.

Check past postings on this thread for details, or email me.

    Hello forum members....
We are in the final stages of planning now for the May reunion; the 40th Combat Wing UK Reunion.
Please refer to previous posts within this thread for information pertaining to this event. At this time we are still accepting enquiries and bookings; whilst the tour is aimed at members and family of the three groups, the 92nd, 305th and 306th, we also welcome everyone who has an interest in 8th AF history and perhaps the three groups we shall celebrate this coming May.

    Hello Forum...
I had a telephone call yesterday with the RAF events display unit, Cranwell. It is yet to be formalized by letter, which I am promised should reach me by beginning March, but .... The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are scheduled to make an appearance at our Combat Wing Day, Thurleigh Field. Usually this takes the form of a Supermarine Spitfire (the BBMF have several to choose from), a Hawker Hurricane, plus one of only two flyable Avro Lancaster four engine bombers in the world today. The flight are performing at Southend during the same day, and plan to navigate via our event, to pay homage to the USAAF and those of the 40th CW that flew in WW2.

No news on any other airborne displays, but we are trying for a P-51 Mustang if available, plus I have no idea whether, if, SALLY B will be even able to fly? My letters have gone unanswered so far, so I'm not holding much hope on this!!!

The Instructors from the 306th FTG, Pueblo Field, USAF Academy Colorado Springs are still on track to be with us, in honour of their heritage and the 306th BG.

    More updates to follow.

    Ian,

As a local Parish Councillor for Yelden & Melchbourne I am aware of your forthcoming reunion.

Knowing past associations between the US Forces in both Chelveston & Melchbourne, and being a resident of Melchbourne Park myself, I am happy to offer a visit if you wish it.  There is a US plaque on Melchbourne House and previous veterans have looked into my front room where they tell us bombs were stored.  Anyway, the offer is there - let me know.

Is it possible to see an itinerary of the visit - I am very supportive of what these guys did for us.

    Regards,

    Ross
