1. The AAF forum will close permanently on December 1, 2017. I no longer have the time to manage a project like this, obviously, or give it the attention that it deserves. I still think fondly of the early days in 1998 when this all got started. A small, but eager group of tech savvy 1st and 2nd generation descendants made great friends with the last of the WWII veterans thru the newfangled internet. They're all gone now. It's time for me to turn the page. Thanks for being along for part of the ride. I'm sorry it got so bumpy in the end.

Yes, he is in this popular photo. Actually, I see both Father's. I never seen the true story behind both of them. My birth father, the only person that has loved me so much to put my name on the B 17 plane. The deal was, if something happened to him, the first crew member that made it back to Texas, to please check up on me. My mother had divorced Willis before going to War. Sgt. Albert P Tyler (I believe he used to say he was a Gunner.) He was the to come to Texas to check on me. He and my mother got married and had 4 other children. I haven't seen that story be told ever... THANK you Sir, for your welcomed reply to my new membership....

Please note the edit to my post #2. Cropped images of your fathers, a remarkable war story.

Your Stepfather was shot down 16 August 1943 as noted earlier (aircraft position: Engineer Top Turret Gunner). He evaded capture being harbored by the French resistance near Paris. He eventually made the journey to Spain and liberation, returning to Port Reith, England on 26 October 1943, his Escape and Evasion (E&E) Report 139 is attached. He was likely back in the United States by Christmas 1943.
