Most men who went on to become pilots (Officers) started their military life as enlisted men. This appears to be the case with your 1Lt Raleigh. This is the NARA data generated by a search for CHARLES RALEIGH. Only two (2) names came up. One was Charles W and the other Charles L.

Notice that Charles L Raleigh went into the Air Corps as an enlisted man--this is the usual route for a man going forward to earn his wings as a pilot and officers commission.

This shows us that Charles L. Raleigh was from Bibb County, Georgia. The main city in Bibb County is Macon, and that is about dead center in the state of Georgia.

14067165 (Enlisted Service Number) He would received an Officer's number O- when commissioned

and then you have the CIA report that states Shenderoff was a Soviet Major

    2. Morris SHENDEROFF, born 32 years ago in Cleveland, Ohio, of Russian-Jewish parents, left America in 1928, living since then in Russia where he became a Major in the Red Army. Stowing away on an American plane at Kecskemet, Hungary, he came to Bari on 22 March 1945. He is under X-2 investigation.

Just noticed the date of death on the photo is also incorrect....78 vs 77

Why the abbreviation Bro. before his name....That would tend to indicate a member of the clergy rather than someone's biological kin....? Just sayin'...?

Could have been a Mason. Perhaps Masonic records from Bibb County, GA would help?
