1. The AAF forum will close permanently on December 1, 2017. I no longer have the time to manage a project like this, obviously, or give it the attention that it deserves. I still think fondly of the early days in 1998 when this all got started. A small, but eager group of tech savvy 1st and 2nd generation descendants made great friends with the last of the WWII veterans thru the newfangled internet. They're all gone now. It's time for me to turn the page. Thanks for being along for part of the ride. I'm sorry it got so bumpy in the end.

Mike...Have you checked the Joe Baugher website ? There may be information there concerning the tail numbers you are looking for.

Those two digit numbers are not the same as what we call 'tail numbers' on B-17s and B-24s. They are Battle Numbers and are more akin to radio call letters than to tail numbers. Problem with trying to ID an aircraft s/n from the Battle Number is that when an a/c was lost the Battle Number was reassigned to the replacement a/c. The web site markstyling.com has numerous illustrations of B-26s showing Battle Numbers and a/c serial numbers broken down by Group and Squadron but the site is down at the moment.

Hmmm, appears as if Mark Styling has completely reformatted his web site. In the process his illustrations have been shrunk down considerably and are no longer any use in trying to identify Battle Numbers, serial numbers, or nose art. Too bad, his old format was very helpful.

    New web site: http://www.aviationillustration.com...gories-listing/category/97-b-26s-of-the-usaaf
Old web site (back up) :http://www.markstyling.com/b26_research.02.htm

EDIT: Original web site is back up with listing of serial numbers and battle numbers.

You can probably research the serial numbers on Joe Baugher's site to eliminate some of the serial numbers based on dates lost, etc.
