Can someone explain the meaning of this is an example of a Formation Type:
The Low Low element flew directly below and behind the Squadron Lead, see http://www.398th.org/Research/8th_AF_Formations_Description.html
This is the cover of a book authored by our son and has nothing to do with aviation. How in the world did you pick up on it?
I think Richard (cody1947) is looking for the "Low Low" squadron element position; when it was employed.
303rd BG formation
In 1945 the 303rd used a 10 aircraft squadron formation. 4 in the lead element and 3 in each the high and low. Normally three squadrons were assigned. On maximum efforts the fourth squadron was assigned.
