    Hi all,

Trying to locate information on the 96th during Operation FRANTIC II, the first Russia Shuttle mission run from England. Looking for anything: load lists, aircraft losses, group or squadron histories, etc. Got an overview of the first leg of the mission from Maxwell, but that's all. I contacted the 96th BGA a while back and they had nothing as well.

FRANTIC II ran from 21 June to 5 July 44 and included bombing missions to Ruhland, Drohobycz, Arad and Beziers. I know the 96th contingent was decimated at Poltava, so had limited participation in the subsequent three missions.

    Thank you for your time!

    Hi Airwar,

Thank you for taking the time to send me these articles, most interesting. They are about the first Shuttle and men from the 15th Air Force, so are outside of the scope if my research.

It is amazing you have been able to track down so many hometown newspaper articles!

    Thank you again,

Hi Tim,I shall look if I find articles of the 96th BG Shuttle missions.
I think you allready have the book '' Escort to Berlin '' by Fry & Ethell.

    Hi Jaap,

Yes, I have pretty much everything on the 4th; in researching FRANTIC II I have been able to find a good deal of information on the participating bomb groups from the 13th and 45th CBWs - all except for the 96th. When I started looking into this a couple of years back (for the 70th anniversary of FRANTIC II) my main interest in the bombers was locating which aircraft the 4th ground crew were on. With the load lists/crew assignments, I was able to track most everyone's assigned bomber - except those in the 96th. Their association and Maxwell did not have them.

Now I'm taking a more in-depth look at the entire mission and looking to fill in the blanks. I've compiled a partial list of 96th ships that went (based on those that were written off at Poltava) but nothing beyond that.

Thanks for keeping your eye out for something on the 96th!
