    My step dad was with the 854Th Air Engineering Squadron. What was this squadron? Air Engineering? Where was the base in England. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks from a grateful and proud son

    Welcome to the AAF forum Jim.

    According to the ARMY AIR FORCES OVERSEAS STATION LIST ON 1 MAY 1945; the 854th Air Engineering Squadron was a component of the 428th Air Service Group, stationed at RAF Glatton, England, USAAF Station 130, see Wiki data here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Glatton

    Aircraft maintenance and repair too extensive to be performed at the aircraft's bomb group maintenance echelon level.

    As to 854Th Air Engineering Squadron documents there are some held at the Air Force Historical Research Agency (AFHRA), Maxwell AFB. There is a non-governmental internet finding aid for holdings at AFHRA called the Air Force History Index. Results searching the AF Index for the 854Th Air Engineering Squadron http://airforcehistoryindex.org/search.php?q=Air+Engineering/0854/Squadron

    two likely files you may wish to request:
    IRISNUM= 00102376 GROUP/0428/AIR SERVICE http://airforcehistoryindex.org/data/000/102/376.xml
    IRISNUM= 00054893 SQUADRON/0854/AIR ENGINEERING http://airforcehistoryindex.org/data/000/054/893.xml

    Obtaining Copies of Documents, see http://airforcehistoryindex.org/obtain.html BE ADVISED; the email address offered here is outdated and NOT correct! The current and correct email address for these requests to AFHRA is AFHRA.NEWS@US.AF.MIL , see http://www.afhra.af.mil/Archival-Requests/
    To be redundant you would be requesting via email IRISNUM 00102376 and IRISNUM 00054893; request that AFHRA respond to you with these files electronically if possible to your email address.

    Good luck and good hunting.
