B-29 Ditching & Rescue RAW (HD)
This video is slightly off thread, but it shows the incredible rescue of a downed USAAF B-29 crew in the Pacific by the U.S. Navy.

This footage used to lay forgotten for decades. We received it directly from the B-29 pilot's son, Mr. Mike McCaskill.
We choosed to leave the entire 12 min raw footage uncutted. Following our request, Mr. McCaskill was so kind to write the story behind this "never seen before" footage, giving us all the particoulars about this forgotten episode of WW2.

If you’d like to read the rest of this story here is the direct link with story below the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cme9JcdSepA&feature=related

Scott

Re:“Air to Air” and “Air to Ground” Combat footage (videos) (25Kingman49)

1945 Thunderbolt: From France to Germany
Early months of 1945. Air Force Fighter Command, Photographed by 3rd Combat Camera Unit
P-47 Thunderbolt’s, P-38 Lightning’s and P-51 Mustangs all included...
United States Department of the Air Force documentary film that details the air war between Allied fighter pilots and the German Luftwaffe over Western Europe during 1945.
This is a long film "41 minutes", but it may be of interest to fighter pilot veterans as it includes details on the ground and in the air. There is some Hollywood “close up editing” in cockpit footage, but this is a home front oriented film to keep moral up in the States and worth the record for the detail. Yamamoto, the itinerary revealed, would be flying from Rabaul to Ballalae Airfield, on an island near Bougainville in the Solomon Islands, on the morning of 18 April 1943.

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox to "Get Yamamoto." Knox instructed Admiral Chester W. Nimitz of Roosevelt's wishes. Admiral Nimitz consulted Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr., Commander, South Pacific, then authorized a mission on 17 April to intercept Yamamoto's flight en route and shoot it down.. Squadrons of Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft were assigned the task as only they possessed the range to intercept and engage. The Liberators started their long flight from airfields in Northern Africa. The low-altitude (to avoid German advanced Radar equipped line of defense) bombing of the Ploesti Oil Fields (Romania) was deemed a success, even though 54 of the 177 bombers that took part were lost, and 53 more were heavily damaged. The refineries output was greatly curtailed, and five Medals of Honor were awarded, the most for any single American military action.

Scott

Re:“Air to Air” and “Air to Ground” Combat footage (videos) (25Kingman49)

WWII Damaged B-24's Get Back Archival Footage

Liberators at war over Europe and the Pacific, [No dates given]

Lib piloting and operational details discussed in detail…Seems almost like a Liberator pilot training film.

Scott

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=IRAPAh78ntM&NR=1

Re:“Air to Air” and “Air to Ground” Combat footage (videos) (25Kingman49)

WW II: RARE COLOR FILM: MEMPHIS BELLE: 25TH MISSION
Estimated date 1943 “Memphis Belle” 324th Squadron 91st Heavy Bombardment Group
The 25th mission and a ticket home…

Scott
