You could add a "Sguare A" since that process had started in July. I would go with TS-N since there is some conflict about whether it was TS-W on 17 July. It arrived to the 94th on 7 June and assigned as TS-N. After digging around in available 94th records, the markings early on were--Olive drab over Sea Gray, gray squadron and call letter on the fuselage (muted), circle star in blue background (also muted), yellow tail number (23219). circle star underneath the right wing and one on top of the left wing. If the square A had been painted on the tail it would have been a yellow A in a white square. Hope this helps, regards, Marc
Re:ow to paint a B17F-35-DL 42-3219 (Froggies)

Marc,

thanks for this information. I've get the nose-art from this plane from
National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. They have one picture from the plane, only the nose-art but I'am very happy with that.
Regards Jeroen
Re:ow to paint a B17F-35-DL 42-3219 (MB0427)

Jeroen, the A/C would have had the same overall paint scheme as James Herndon's model of "Good Pickin", but of course the markings would be different. The 94th lost 18 A/C in May-June. On 13 June they moved to Rougham Field. They were very busy repairing A/C and moving into their new airfield and painting markings was a low priority. In July some had the Square A painted on and some did not as of yet. My best guess would be it had the squadron code and call letter painted on the fuselage along with the circle star and nothing on the tail except the serial number, but that is only a guess. Hopefully the photo which Mike provided you info on will be a photo of the whole A/C and not just the nose art.
