I haven't been on this site in a long while, but today I was searching the 456th & 744th SQ for any additional information on my cousin Wilson D Smith who was a Navigator. His plane was shot down in June '44, and was a POW until Patton's liberation. A book I have makes reference to the July 2, '44 mission and Mr Jones. Even "Emperor Jones" is referenced on page 469. The battle order is found on page 461......Emperor Jones was in the 2nd box. The mission to the Budapest, Hungary is described in detail. This particular book, "Flying Colt," by Robert S. Capps was published in 2004 & I purchased it at an Antique dealer in Aurora, IL. Check out Amazon for a copy. This request is regarding Edward C Jones Jr, KIA on 2 July 1944, during Mission 77. He was a member of the 744th Bombardment Squadron, 456th Bombardment Group, 15th AAF. I have the MACR, and a report downloaded from this site about the Mission, that names the B-24, 'Emperor Jones'. I've been searching online, but haven't found a photo of this B-24. Would anyone know if there was any artwork on the nose - or any way of finding out if there was?
