Tomorrow is my last day at my job of 35 years. They are cutting our work force so the gang gave us all cards and a collected for each of us..

It was enough to purchase a used copy of ONE DAMNED ISLAND AFTER ANOTHER for $66.00 and I am very very happy with it. I was able to get a review of it when it was first published and they gave in the Highest Marks!

I have a copies of the Original "Grey Geese Calling" and "The 11 BG H". I was surprised to find my fathers photo on page 9. He has or I have the same photo with all the names on the back.

I will get to work on your suggestions, thank you all so very much again.

"The old Hawaiian Air Force met the attack of the Japanese on 7 December 1941. Redesignated the Seventh Air Force, its bomber units moved on to combat in the Pacific almost immediately. The Seventh Fighter Command, however, has held back to defend Oahu against air attacks that never came. The pilots of the fighter units frustrated at their static role, said that they were left guarding the pineapples. From the cadre of the original Hawaiian units they spawned two new fighter groups. Eventually, those fighter squadrons, a close-knit fraternity, began to garrison outlying island bases, and eventually saw combat in the Marshals-Gilberts, the Marianas. Finally toward war's end, they were flying long-range missions against Japan from Ie Shima and Iwo Jima. The lieutenants of 1941 were the colonels of 1945, and some survivors served until the Japanese surrender."

Many thanks I will try your suggestions. I saw your outfits B-17 at Reading, PA.

The second camera I was awarded for 35 Years of Loyal Service went dead as it passed me. It figures, it was the second one to go bad since receiving the first one.

I could have died, I got photos of everything but your B-17 and that is the only thing I really wanted to photograph.

I understand it will be coming back to Reading PA. sometime. They mentioned the terrible fire your group had. Is there an address that one might make a contribution to replace some of your equipment?

Gregg, Let me recommend another Site other than amazon.com which happened to have 3 pricey hardcover copies. Try biblio.com which is another Site for old (this book qualifies @ 1946 vintage), rare, unusual, strange and interesting books. Unfortunately, they too were pricey! I found this, it sums up very nicely the 7 TH and the 42 Squadron who lost every B-17 they had left on February 1, 1943 along with all their crews.

My father was in the 42 Squadron and is in the book "Grey Geese Calling" during this time of the war. He is in the front row on Page 9 sitting in the front with the helmet at his feet. He is T.Sgt. Bud Heilman

As one of the four Numbered Air Forces in Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), Seventh Air Force (7 AF) has a distinguished heritage that is deeply rooted in the Pacific. Initially, 7 AF activated on 1 November 1940 as the Hawaiian Air Force.

The fledgling 7 AF's involvement in World War II was best summed up by its air and ground views as "Just one damned island after another!" 7 AF fought the Japanese imperial might from Hawaii 2,000 miles southwest to the Gilberts, then 600 miles northwest to the Marshalls, 900 miles west to the Carolines, 600 miles northwest to the Marianas, 600 miles north to Iwo Jima, 1,000 miles west to Okinawa, always edging closer towards the center of Japanese power. A map story of the 7 AF would cover 3,000 miles north and south of Midway to Fiji, and 5,000 miles east and west from Pearl Harbor to the Ryukus.

The saga of the 7 AF's aerial exploits across the Central Pacific has the "rags-to-riches" qualities of a Horatio Alger story. First the almost complete decimation of the Hawaiian Air Force (predecessor of the 7 AF) at Pearl Harbor, then its gradual build-up and vast oceanic search missions to keep the enemy at bay. Later, long-range heavy bomber attacks softened up strategic islands for amphibious invasions, with greater weight brought against the enemy perimeter defense by the advance of fighter and medium bombers. Finally, after constant consolidation of gains, 7 AF smashed at Japan directly from both Iwo Jima, as escort to the long-range strategic B-29s, and from Okinawa with the Far East Air Forces in the rocky Ryukus, right up to the surrender of Japan.

The Seventh was the first air force to feel the enemy's weight and the first to take toll of the enemy. It flew longer to battle, used wider range of aircraft, and covered more territory than any land-based Air Force. It fought and bombed by day and night, flew distant reconnaissance missions, dropped every type of bomb and incendiary, sunk enemy shipping, mined enemy waters, and performed countless routine and special jobs. Its personnel served on isolated coral atolls, received scant recognition, and endured months of dreary monotony.

By necessity, 7 AF was a precision-bombing unit. Its commander, Major General Willis Hale, summed up 7 AF's contribution by saying: "The target had to be directly hit. The difference of 40 feet one way or the other meant that bombs would either land on the lagoon on one side of the island or the ocean on the other. And we didn't fly 2,000 miles to kill fish."

I am Damned sure that is it, thank you so very much. I am trying to help Lt. Krey find a copy.

In 1944 he recommended my father for Warrant Officer. I only made contact with him a few months ago. He is still every bit an "Officer and a Gentleman". at the age of 92!

I have the original Letter of Recommendation, but I can not crop it down small enough to post here, NUTS!

There was a book published in 1979 titled 'One Damned Island after Another: The Saga of the Seventh Air Force in WWII' by Clive Howard. Could this be what you are looking for? Have see it in used book listings on the web, not cheap.

I made contact with a Lt. Krey he 92 years old and was in the 11 BG H the 42 Squadron.

He asked me about a book with a name like the one below or similar to it. Is anyone familiar with this book or where to find one I think it is out of print.
