Installing Receivers in Helmets - 06/06/2008 11:09:54 AM
I have a AN-H-15 flight helmet and an ANBH radio receiver unit to put into it, but am not sure how to do it.  The rubber on the helmet is not dried out, but I can't get it to stretch far enough to get the receivers in.  Can anyone give me any help or guidance in installing the ANBH radio receivers?  Was there a tool like a shoe horn that was used to do this?  Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Marty,
Going from a fuzzy recollection of something I saw maybe 40 years ago.  Is the receiver unit a two piece item that is screwed together?  Like a screw top jar?  Could it be that the two pieces are unscrewed then slipped through the rubber part then screwed back together??

Hal,

I looked and the receivers seem to be one piece, nothing to take apart by unscrewing.

Marty,

Here's how I put mine in.  I gently (GENTLY) pulled the inner ear cushions out, installed the receivers, then reinstalled the ear cushions back in with just a drop of rtv.. The receivers might screw apart, but i didn't want to possibly break them

Thanks for the guidance.  I tried to pull one of the ear pads, but it didn't seam to want to come loose.

I finally got them in by just stretching the rubber outer pieces repeatedly with my fingers to loosen up the rubber some.  I was then able to get the receivers in by getting one side started then working my way around.  I had to use a butter knife for the last section, but it finally popped in.

Afternoon Marty..

Hi Marty,

Although you hav successfully installed the receivers (same way I do) for future reference in case the rubber earcup pads of the AN-H-15 or A-11 are not that supple anymore, I found helpfull to warm them up before stretching them with a hair drier. 10-15 min of warming them makes the difference once you stretch them.
