Recommendations for B-24 DVDs/Videos - 04/19/2005 12:50:03 AM
Can anyone recommend some good DVDs or Videos covering the B-24? I would like to acquire some which contain good external and internal footage.

Thanks.

Here's a good set of DVD's that my husband bought for me...it's titled "Air Power", it's narrated by Walter Cronkite, and a sub title on the cover is "The Riveting Stories of World Was II Air Combat". I've really enjoyed watching them over and over.

Wings of Glory is a pretty good set.
It is a set of 7 VHS tapes.
I don`t know if it`s on DVD now or not.

A while back I picked up one called "Birth of a Bomber" (no, it had nothing to do with the Unibomber's mother). It is a good film that looks at how the B-24 was constructed at the Willow Run plant. I found it rather amusing that before the video even started there was a disclaimer that said something about some of the terms used in this video are not considered "politically correct" in today's world.

I found it on e-Bay.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input, everyone.

I actually just ordered the ****'s Warbird DVD on the B-24. I am looking forward to seeing it.

Has anyone seen the Discovery produced "Great Planes" series on the B-24?

Thanks.

Ron,   Good Recommendations, and I shall add a couple more.  First I have a VHS (which I've had profesionally transferred to a DVD) entitled: The B-24 Story from American Sound and Video, total time 75 mins. It is broken into 3 separate videos: The Willow Run Story (a 30 minute compilation by the Ford Motor Company and the USAAF), the Global B-24 (deploments and uses), Air Siege-Ploesti(combat footage).  Next, the 6 DVD series entitled WWII AIR WAR thru Topics Entertainment available at Sam's Club, Cosco and some select video stores (I'm assuming).  It is a seasonal purchase.  Although there are no DVD's specifically geared to the B-24 in the set, all of the DVD's  show the various aspects of missions, manufacturing, deployments and "human interest stories" interspersing footage of both B-24's and B-17's.  Good hunting!  Best Regards!  Steven

There is also a 1983 documentary , World War II with Walter Cronkite, from the CBS Video Library, which has a part of one chapter devoted to the use of B-24s in the Pacific I believe it is available in both VHS and DVD.
