Quick question,
I am trying to fill in the blanks as to where my grandfather was during his service and gain a better perspective as to the bases he was on at those times. As I am sure many men were, he was transfered alot while state-side.
Is it safe to assume that the postage mark which notes the date and time the letter was processed is the town or city where the base was located? e.g. December 18th, 1942 Lakeworth, Fla. or July 13th, 1942 Georgetown, SC.
I have a few that are from Ayer, MA where he was stationed at Fort Devens and a few when he was stationed at Manchester AB all of which indicate the town in which the base is located! Just wondering if that would be an easy way to distinguish where he was at a particular time?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely, Joshua
