Lockedneed infomation on Goxhill airfield England

hi, i don't know wether i have the right thread, but i'm trying to trace the history of a local airfield near where i live in england.

the airfield is located in a little village called Goxhill or better known as station 345

the airfield was handed over to the american airforce in 1942 by the raf. it was used to train fighter pilots and they used to fly with our local lads on day light missions.

as far as i'm aware the usaaf 8th airforce and the 78th fighter group was based there.

do you know anybody who was based there or has photos of the control tower ect of how it looked in WW2.

i have searched the web, sent e-mails to duxford (england) who has a large american museum there, and i have also searched our local libary for photos ect, but nothing.

the main reason i'm asking is that it's one of the most preserved WW2 airfield in the uk, from the control tower complete with window frames and coat hooks to the gas pump for the cars.

and as the local farmer who owns it is selling the land it's all stood on i would like to get it preserved for ever as a tribute to all the men and women that fought and lost their lives during WW2.

i do hope that some one could help.

I just checked in the forum dedicated to the 78th FG within this website, and see no evidence that you have posted your question there. If you are interested, just navigate to them under the 3rd Air Division of the 8th Air Force (under 'Atlantic' in Groups by Region).

Good luck in your research.
