The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum-Anyone Have a B-17 Ball Turret?

The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum is just off of I-95 near Savannah, GA. Seems that the 8th Air Force was originally organized at Savannah before being shipped to England to "cripple Germany's ability to make war."
Anyway, I haven't been to the museum in almost a decade but this past weekend I went down to Savannah.

The museum is in the process of restoring a B-17, that has been painted with the name: "The City of Savannah" after an original 8th AF B-17 that was shot down. They are in the process of restoring that B-17 and badly need a ball turrent to complete the restoration. So if you know where a B-17 ball turret can be found, please contact the museum directly. I am sure that they would greatly appreciate it!

If you are driving to or from Florida on I-95, by all means stop at the museum-it is well worth the time. They even have a "Mission Experience" presentation that is something else.

How to find the museum? You can see the museum's parked B-47 from the interstate-just take the next exit and follow the signs to the museum!

A tip for the "Snow Birds" to Fla. and half backs, ( Transplant Yankees from Fla that go to NC in the summer).
A visit to the Museum is well worth the rest stop. They have done a great job to foster 8th AAF memorabilia. I've been there, Kudos to the caretakers.

The last time I stopped at the AF museum in Dayton, they had pulled the ball turret display from next to Shoo Shoo Baby (it was a restored ball turret set up as a display of its own next to the B-17).  If they are not going to display it, maybe they could send it to Savannah to use in this restoration unless they are scavaging parts off it to use in the Memphis Belle.

I second the recommendation!!  Visit the chapel also--the stained-glass windows are worth seeing.  They have a nice aviation art collection in their dining area as well.

Also at the museum, be sure to check out the library, which is really excellent!

Have you checked with the people at the WIX website? That would be a good place to talk to the right people.
