Gentleman,
A young lady has asked for help in finding more info on her Father. This is all she has as of yet.

My Dad Frank W. Brown was a staff sergeant with the 8th USAAF. He was tail gunner on a B-17 (SLEEPY TIME GAL). With 35 missions over France & Germany. Had a forced landing near Paris shortly after the city had been freed. Another time the engineer was killed & the hydraulic brake pump & lines were punctured & the liquid in the cylinders was lost. The crew was able to repair the lines & poured pineapple juice to fill cylinders & they found tail wheels & right aileron were gone all due to flak.

I realize this isn't much but I have seen you guys perform miracles before & I will say thanks to all who try to help on her behalf.

A 381st bomb group plane. Suggest post in that forum. Apologies for brief response. If nobody picks this up in that forum I'll be very surprised!!

I believe there are around or at least six groups that had a  B-17 Sleepy Time Gal but I am not totally sure. I tried the 381st but found no Frank W. Brown that was a tail Gunner.  Ill research a little more.

Photos of three different crews with Sleepy Time Gal.  Any chance one of these men is Sgt Brown?

A Frank W Brown is listed on the links below.  These are from the records of the 381st.
In August, 1944 a Frank W Brown is promoted to S/Sgt

In September, 1944  a  Frank W Brown is being moved  (with 63 others) to the  12th RCD, Chorley.

In November 44, a Frank W Brown, Jr is awarded a DFC (after he had competed his tour).

It is not clear if these refer to different Frank W Brown's.  They don't list a service number.

Hi there,

I wonder if you were able to find his enlistment data from among the NARA AAD Electronic Army Serial Number Merged File, ca. 1938 - 1946

What year was he born?

Frank W. Brown is listed on page 695 in Chaplain Browns book. I also have other photos - Nolan crew for example but I don't want to swamp this forum with photos.

I can't believe that Dreambaby's tail number is just one off from my Dad's Aircraft. My Father was with the 379th BG & was assigned to the Swamp Fire 42-32024
