T-62984 Flight Officer Thomas W KILEY - Killed - 383rd Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Gro

Hi,

T-62984 Flight Officer Thomas W KILEY was killed on the 14th February 1945 when his P-51 (42-106448) was in collison with an RAF Stirling of 161 Squadron over the County of Bedfordshire, UK. The Stirling crew were all killed.

I cannot find a photo of Thomas Kiley.  Does anyone have one or know where I can find one?

Regards

Paul Johnson

Paul        couldn't find a photo in either the 364th or Scout Force books ( Kiley was believed flying with the 1st Scout Force from Honington at the time); the planes came down at Sandy about 12 miles from here.
There is an article regarding it on the Tempsford site at
    www.tempsford.20m.com/home.html
    Kiley is buried at Madingley.
Incidentally "MA" was used by 2 other squadrons and 161 also flew Hudsons from Tempsford.

Interestingly, 42-106448 was originally Henry Brown's WR-Z "Hun Hunter ~ Texas".  From the 355th FG it went to the 555th FTS , 495th FTG where it was C7-C/ before going to the 364th FG's clobber college.  Kiley joined the 364th FG 383rd FS on 15 February 1945, just one week before being killed on 14th.  1SF pilots were very often rotated from the 364th FG and they seemed to serve a period of just a few weeks before returning to their parent squadron.  As a flight officer, it is highly unlikely that Kiley would have gone directly to the Scouts without any operational experience so I would certainly stick with him being with the 383rd FS.
