Wanted: Photos of the 404th Fighter Group in Normandy, please.

I moved to Normandy 2 years ago and have bough a house which is about 50 meters from the monument to the 404th Fighter Group at the ALG A-5 in Cartigny l'Epinay. I have tried to find photos of the airfield and the personnel who were here in 1944 but have been unable to find anyone (even in the village here in Normandy) who has photos of the airfield in 1944. Is there anyone out there who might have photos of the airfield in 1944 please? I'd love an aerial shot of the airfield with aircraft on the runway if possible, and would be prepared to pay for the photo's if necessary, if someone can tell me where to find them, please.

Thanks for everything in advance,

Ed Robinson

Thanks for those links. Couldn't find any photos of ALG A-5 on the sites, but at least I'm hopeful that I might be able to find some somewhere else.

I have a handful of veterans' personal photos of the 404th Fighter Group that we collected when we were writing the book Hell Hawks, a history of the 365th Fighter Group. In some cases, the location is unknown. I have one photo that I acquired in a yard sale and written on the back are the words: "Me, 1944." Such are the tribulations when one attempts to collect and archive history.
These photos aren't great and none exists in digital form -- I don't have a scanner -- but I'm happy to share them if we can find a way.

Hi Bob, My name is Tom James. My dad was a pilot in the 404th FG, 508th FS. I met you briefly in front of the Smithsonian Annex a couple of years ago where you were selling your 365th book. I was the guy with the 508th FS A2 jacket on. I would be very interested in seeing anything you may have on my dad's group. I also live in Virginia, in Va. Beach. In trying to reconstruct my dad's combat history I have also accumulated a fair amount of literature and pictures of my dad's group. Please let me know if you are interested.
                                                                                                                                       sincerely yours, Tom James
