Crash report list.
-

This may have been covered already, but I don't recall. I know of AAIR's and this forum's MACR list, but is there a similar list for crash reports (Form 14) in terms of which microfilm rolls they are on? Also, I recall reading somewhere that overseas crashes did not get the same reports filed. Is that true or would I be able to trace crashes overseas as Tony Mireles has done with the Stateside crashes? Thanks in advance. Jim

Jim, For the most part, the accident reports that exist are on the microfilm reels and Craig has the most comprehensive index around. There are the reels that are in chronological order and a set of misc. reels. The regular reels contain all accident reports on file (both domestic and overseas) when the film was made (mostly around 1957-1958). The miscellaneous reels contain all other aircraft accident reports that were out of file when the film was made; they also contain a few other misc series of accident reports (such as the 200 series)--some cover minor overseas accidents. For WWII, all major accidents (and most accidents in general) are covered on the regular reels. For WWII the call numbers are 46046 through 46559. After the war, it is a little different. The accident reports for the PTO are very sparse, especially early in the war. Contact me by e-mail or telephone me at home Sunday night and I'll go over my notes on the subject with you. P-51 Ted helped me with this a long time ago and I have everything he ever sent me. As stated above, it is my opinion that Craig has the best and most comprehensive index of the accident reports for the US and overseas. If you can't find it on his index, then it is likely that the report does not exist. Call me. Tony Mireles

Chaps, I'd be very interested in any lists that are available. I've had Cliff Bishop's (the 8th AAF historian and author) help for the last couple of years, but I'm convinced I'm missing some minor, and possibly major, Accident Reports. I'm determined to get as comprehensive a list of 55th FG crashes, losses and non-returns as I can. Any help, or pointers would be gratefully received. Shabby www.55th.org www.station131.co.uk
