Loss of a P47 85th F Squadron 79th FB Group Aug.3rd 1944 - 07/18/2008 05:33:39 AM
I am an Italian researcher interested in getting more details about the loss of a P47 Thunderbolt of the 85th Fighter Squadron- 79th FB Group based in Serraggia Airport,Corsica Island. On morning of 3rd August 1944 this aircraft lost control during the diving flight to hit a railway bridge on river Entella between the towns of Chiavari and Lavagna (Italian eastern riviera North Italy)and sunk in to the sea. The pilot was the Lt.James L. Greene at his first war mission. For unknown reason no MACR was filed but few words are reported in the squadron history. I got this document from AFHRA Maxwell Air Force Base,Alabama and they suggested me to apply to this forum. Is it possible to obtain some more details of this event?
