AAF Project #30072? - 07/16/2008 08:44:54 PM
Can anyone shed any light on what "Project #30072" was at Ladd during the war?  I am guessing it had something to due with either artic training or possibly some of the cold weather experiments such as aircraft equipped with skis.  Can anyone confirm or refute that assumption, please? Thanks in advance.

Jim -
I know there was a B - 17 and Crew sent to Ladd Field for
Cold Weather Tests.
I remember a B - 17 listed as such in Freeman's B - 17 Story
but can't put my Finger on it right now. Will keep looking.

Mike,
Thanks--much appreciated.  I ran across the mention of "Project #30072" while going through IARCs for some A-36s and it piqued my curiousity.  I have seen pictures of ski-equipped P-38s, P-47s, and P-51s with captions for being at Ladd, so I think it likely has to do with that.  I Googled it and found nothing for it except a mention of Cold Weather Training Detachment on the official Ladd history site--and that was when I Googled Ladd--not project 30072.  Things that make ya say "hmmm".  Thanks again.
