B-17s at war, color film; Lt. Clark Gable. - 07/10/2008 04:24:40 PM

I recently viewed an excellent film on CD from Netflix of a war time film put together by actor Clark Gable, a Lt. in the AAF.  This color film runs about an hour, and follows a B-17 group from stateside to England, and then into combat over Europe, including Germany.

Title: World War II: Combat America.

A good movie. For those of you who can live without the high quality DVD version, you can download the film online in four parts from this website:

The movie is in the public domain. The group filmed is the 351st BG.

Kevin,
Gable spent a great deal of time with the 303rd BG.  Here is a link to some of the info about his time there: http://www.303rdbg.com/pp-gable1.html

If you enjoyed this film, you might also want to pick up a copy of Bomber Pilot about the career of Jimmy Stewart in the AAF.  Although not destined to be a classic (refer to link from "Book Corner" sub-forum), it tells a good story about a man (an actor) who became a pilot and then "moved through the ranks" in the AAF.  He was a leader of men and was more than just a "Hollywood promo person."  Strangely enough, having participated in WWII and flown missions in the ETO, I believe he did not "act in WWII movies" upon returning to his acting career after the war.  Best Regards!  Steven
