items when captured
-

When captured, my grandpa had in his possession these items: 1 - Prayer Book 50 - Dollars 18 - Francs 1765 - Lire 1.40 - Lire in money 1 - penny 2 - cards 1 - compass 1 - saw Rocket tinder 1 - pinzette Can anyone tell me what a pinzette is? Can anyone shed specifics on the saw, compass and rocket tinder as items for an escape kit etc, i.e. size, type, function. Also, anyone have a notion on what the marvelous record keeping Germans meant by Lire vs Lire in money? Thanks in advance, Chuck.

Chuck, I'm fairly certain that pinzette are tweezers. Dave

Chuck, Agree with Dave, pinzette is Italian for tweezers. Believe the difference between Lire and Lire in money is that Lire in money probably refers to coins rather than paper money although I can't imaging the value of 1.40 Lire. As far as compass, saw and tinder is concerned just think back to your days in the Boy Scouts. Survival tools to help you get home. Hal

Dave and Hal, Thank you for the quick replies. Tweezers makes some sense to me. I'm with you Hal. Hard to imagine the value of the 1.40 Lire but they noted his one penny as well. Looks like he had enough money on him to last awhile since those are 1944 dollars and not 2008 dollars. Too bad he tried to steal a boat and got caught instead of bribing a local. Chuck.
