Hot!308th Bomb Group Website

To my knowledge there is no Association for WW II era 308th Bomb Group. I maintain a tribute website with limited information at  http://www.usaaf-in-cbi.com/308th_web/index.htm

I am interested in helping with a 308th website.  My father was the copilot on "Axis Nightmare" and I have all his original "carbon copy" orders, photo albums, pilot logs, etc.  The photo album, with captions, starts with pre-flight school at Maxwell Field 16 Dec 1941, through many other airfields, to Chakulia India, Yangkai, Cheng Kung, etc. 
 
I also maintain a couple of websites and know how much time they take to develop and maintain, so I could assist with the webpages.

I would like to work with you on a 308th Bomb Group website.   My uncle was the regular navigator of the "Chug-a-Lug" and "Chug-a-Lug, Jr.", and was serving as the substitute navigator on the second "Hot as Hell" when it vanished on a flight from Kunming to Chagua in January 1944.

I initiated a web site tribute to the 308th Bm Grp in 1999 at the request of several veterans I met during the 1998 Convention of "Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force Association". By 2003 the incoming information had slowed to bare trickle and in 2004 personal situation brought development and expansion to a halt. And, in 2006 I forgot to renew the domain registraion
Late last year I combined the 308th material with two other sites I had been mainitaining at http://www.usaaf-in-cbi.com However, I have not updated any of the presentation nor information since 2004.

I would be delighted if someone with an interest in the 308th would produce a site to commemorate the men and their activities. I offer my meager efforts as a beginning.

Also I would like to get his medals and ribbons replaced. They were lost over the years. I would like to have them to create commorative shadow box for him.  I still have his wings.

JM,  the information others provided to queries in your 374th Bomb Squadron thread is more than I.
 
Regarding replacing his medals... I have been seeing posts saying military services are no longer providing replacements.  I do not know if that is fact.
 
 

Tony, what would be the first steps to take in order to get an "official" bomb group website up and running? throughout my initial attempts at researching the men that my grandfather was associated with during the War, I have found many bomb group sites filled with information. loading lists, mission lists, plane lists, crew lists, etc.
is this type of information available for groups from the CBI? if so, where would be the best place to start looking?
NARA and/or other archival organizations?
The 8th AF has an amazing amount of heritage/historical information on the web. In your opinion, is there enough info available to me/us to get a viable 308th BG website up and running?
 
I'd certainly like to be a part of any such undertaking, and will assist in any way that I can.

  No simple answer to your first questions. To me "official" suggests sanctioned by a Group Association.  To my knowledge one was never established for the 308th, at least that is what I was told at several "Flying Tigers of the 14th Air Force Association" conventions, and why some 308th vets asked me to create the Tribute website.  So, might not be able to have a sanctioned, "official" website.
 
However, one should probably include Alan Starcher, Kerry Townsend (slimm), Jack Gross (vitaminP) and others among the 6-8 people, all connected to a veteran of the 308th (me excluded), currently collecting, consolidating and sharing 308th Bm Grp information. As you know, putting information onto a website is not particularly difficult, time consuming, by not difficult.  It should be easy to present the "official" information you and those noted above have collected onto a 308th-related website. Expand yours, mine or create a new one. If being "official" is important, perhaps you should form a "308th Bomb Group family and friends Historical Society", or some such, to "sanction" a website.
