CORECTION!! Lt Garlyn Hoffman, 355th FG, in collition with Gibert Patterson in his flight during their brak to atack incoming Me109s; Hoffman was in fact alive, he extracated himself from the broken fuselage of his P-51 as the remains of it plunged earthward. He survived to be PoW.
Humble apologies, especially to me counterparts at the 355th for this error in my typing!!!
