I am looking for any information on my father's time with the 501st Black Panthers.  He was !st Lt. Herbert W. Kraushaar and served as a navigatior from mid 1944 until January 1946.  Any information is greatly appreciated.

Guessing you checked the 345th BG on this forum.  You'll google up a lot if you search for "345th bomb"

While you're waiting for the book; the 501st BS was flying out of Nadzab, New Guinea in mid 1944, they moved to Biak in July and on to Dulag, Leyteafter that.  Pretty much in the Leyte Luzon area.  They flew B-25s (my father trained B-25 pilots for a while).  Looks like a pretty active squadron in a lot of campaigns in Japan, China, New Guinea, Philippines etc.

Don't forget to check with older relatives to see if they have memories, letters home, etc.

And here's a great site http://web.cortland.edu/van/345thBombGroup.htm There's gonna be a reunion in Las Vegas, NV Sept 17-20th.  Info on the site.  No better place to rake in info on your father's service than at the group reunion...you'll probably meet guys that flew with him, find accounts and maybe photos.  And, if you have anything from his service be sure to take it to the reunion to share too.

Happy hunting.

Hello, My name is Greg Perkins, My dad was Morris Perkins, a Navigator on a B-25 during 1945.  He has passed on but he has an album with various foreign currency that were signed by fellow aviators.  Apparently a common practice during the war.  I found Mr. Kraushaar's name on a Japanese one pound currency.  Apparently Herbert and my dad crossed paths during the war......probably signed these bills when they were having a beer or other drink.  I have looked up some of the other names on these different currencies and found that some of these guys lived pretty interesting lives after the war.
My dad was shot down on his first mission, Mar 1945 and was rescued by a submarine under fire from Japanese Zeros off the mainland of Hainan China.....he ended up flying another 16 missions before the war ended.
Should you like to visit some time I can be reached at 316-775-2848.  I can't tell you anything about Mr. Krausharr but I am sure it was interesting since my dad was such a great story teller.
Regards
