RE: Crew info 42-29940 332BS/94BG - 02/24/2008 09:28:41 AM
Hi all,

last year I have found and researched the crash site of this Fortress.
The aircraft is exploded midair and the parts scattered in a area of 5 to10 kilometer.
The crash site I have research is the area from the tail section. Here I have found a lot of parts,
one of this is this:

Material: Stainless steel
Diameter: 64mm
Markings: "176892" "0°Ag" "+9°Eg" "B 17 E U.L."

Maybe someone can tell me what it is ?

Regards

Nils

Hi Chris,

thanks for the reply !

Maybe this part was fixed in a turret ? It make the maschine gun impossible to hit the wings, fuselage or tail during ?
This part was found one the crash site from the tail section...

Today I published my report of the reseach from the crahs of this Fortess:

Hi Nils

Have just had a quick look at the report. I need to translate the text but the photo's alone say it all. Thankyou for putting it together and remembering the Andrew Loog crew.

I'm surprised you haven't found out what that item is yet. There must be somebody on here who knows what it is ?

Regards

Chris.

My name is Jim Spofford, Lt. Loog was part of my father's orignal crew on the FiFi (42-31599) 332nd. I have a photo of the original crew in front of the FiFi which includes Lt. Loog. My father made a notation at the bottom of the photo which reads, " Lt. Loog was made first Pilot in June and given a new Fortress - He and crew missing June 13th in Kiel Raid, later reported killed in action" . My father is still alive and remembers quite a lot of the war. He has given me quite a lot of photo's and news paper clippings which my Grandmother saved while he was at war. I will be glad to share this info. I"ll wait for your response. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Paul, Lt. Loog was part of my Father's original crew on the "FiFi" (42-31599) I have a photo of the crew which includes Lt Loog in front of thier plane. My father was S/Sgt Phil S. Spofford who by the way is still alive and recalls much of the war. He has mentioned Lt. Loog in our conversations about the war. I am new, today, to this site. I posted an answer to your request somewhere else in this form, you may see it. I'll be glad to share anything I have with you and forward any questions to my father. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Jim Spofford
