"Little Miss Mischief" FINISHED! - 07/25/2006 09:27:21 PM
Just wanted to share some pics of my model.
She was on the bench for over a year.
So nice to cross the finish line!

Outstanding Wiggy! Really nice job. I agree with Andy, the weathering of the paint is artfully done and truly convincing.

If the lettering and pin-up nose art are your hand-painted versions, I will be amazed. If they are decals, they look painted on. Either way, nice work!

I'm curious. You built the model with the landing gear retracted, how will you be displaying it?

Hey Man, Glad you liked the model. The nose art decals were hard to find but they're still out there.
The model will be displayed hanging from the ceiling.

Great model Wiggy but I have always been under the impression that Little Miss Mischief was half silver half camo aircraft with the rear half being camo at least that's how I built my aircraft back in the early 1980's, I would love to built her again but getting the decals is a little hard here in Australia and I believe Microscale no long is or has being out of production for many years as I've not seen thier decals for wonks now.  I must have been wrong in dong my Little Miss Mischief the way I did seeing that you have her as all silver can someone put me right as I would love to build her again.

Hey Desert, You are correct: "Little Miss Mischief" didn't get the "press" until she had been put back together using pieces/parts from 13 different aircraft. The model in this thread is how she looked flying back to base after she had been nearly cut in half by flak over Cologne 15 Oct 44. The attached images are how she looked after the graft.

Thanks Wiggy I din't think I was going silly down this way the weather in Oz can be hot sometimes and model builing is stressful for me because of it, never mind I still get it done and I hope one da to build Miss Mischief again she was one of my hero planes for getting back in her condition. I have a few hero planes but can't think of them at this time thanks again Wiggy.

I saw a good shot of "Little Miss Mischief" in her NM & OD finish after a wheels up landing, while browsing through a book in the book store today. It shows the left side of the plane in 3/4 view looking at the nose.

"SHOT TO HELL: The Stories and Photos of Ravaged WWII Warbirds."
By Cory Graff.

You might find it in a local book store or library.

Hey Shooshoo, I'd be interested in any pictures you have of "Little Miss Mischief".
I keep a special folder with lots of images. Its likely I'll build LMM again!

Got to meet the copilots Son the other night. What an honor. He was very pleased with his model. So much so he wants me to do another one! Next time, I'll be building the AT-6 trainer his Father flew.

Lofty blue skies, Wiggy

When LMM landed "gear up," was the gear actually up or did it collapse?

Also, does anyone have any pics of her on this landing?  I've got the one from the left nose side but haven't be able to find any others.  It looks like she's up on some kind of tracked device (look just under the crew door in the shadows).  Is this during a recovery operation after the actual landing?

I'm asking because I want to build her in a dio at the end of the belly landing and she just looks like she's sitting funny.

Thanks,
rasta

Hey Perto, Sorry I've been so long getting back to you. What information can I help you with?
This Vega-built B-17G-35-VE (42-97880) has become one of my favorites for sure!
Let me know...

I just found this forum (2 years after the fact) - I was looking for some photos of Little Miss Mischief. My cousin was the pilot on the Cologne mission: Capt. Paul Randall McDowell. Randall is no longer with us but I'm quite sure he'd be very pleased with your work, Wiggy. Great Job!

Hey Man, thanks for the kind words.
I built this model for the copilot's Son!

Also- through the build research, I met the ball turret gunner's Son!
We attended an air show together...

Hey Man, your right- it does kinda' look like prop marks.
Actually she was nearly cut in half from AA over Cologne...

Thanks, Wiggy
