looking for info Allan Hal DeBerry - 12/16/2002 05:40:49 PM
My uncle, Allan Hal DeBerry was shot down over Germany on approx March 14, 1945. His last letter had return address of 86th fighter group, 526th fighter squadron. He had been with the group for about 3 months, having originally been assigned in Italy in Dec 1944. Any anecdotes or connections are appreciated. [signature]

Cathy :-) Here is some information....there were two P-47s lost on March 14,1945 from the 86th Fighter Group...no squadron listed....a/c 44-20875 MACR 13020 and 42-27936 MACR 13026. The MACR stands for Missing Air Crew Report. You can access this information yourself by going to the block marked Databases at the top of this page and selecting MACR. Enter the date 03/14/1945 and look for P-47... Unit 86. There are two listed. I also checked the ABMC website <http://abmc.gov> but your uncle is not listed. There is a contact for the 86th Fighter Bomber Group WW II Association.... Mr. John M. Sennoff 40 Willow Dr. Tonawanda, N.Y. 14150-14323 Ph. 716-695-2286 I hope this phone number is good... I hope this helps...perhaps Mr Sennoff can assist you further. I would attempt to determine if possible which of the two P-47's you uncle was flying, ....or you can order a copy of each, if you cannot determine the a/c number. Jim :-) [signature]

Cathy :-) Additional information....again ...go to the top of this page and click on "Research" ...scroll down to Archived Records...and look for the MACR section...this tells you how to obtain a copy of the MACR. Just above the MACR is the IDPF which is the Individual Deceased Personnel File...I would contact them for a copy of this information as well. You should mention the Freedom Of Information Act, in your request. ALSO ....this is PUBLIC INFORMATION....the information is FREE...you should not pay anyone to research this information.....the only cost incurred to you will be for the copy(s) from the Government Agency.
