i know that his group actually worked on the planes, and had to go up in them to test them to make sure they were "safe" i don't have much information other than that.

I can't help you with the unit specific stuff but if you go to the main page here, there is a button that reads "Research"  you can find some help in there.

First you will need his service number and such to contact NARA for his records, that can be found here:

http://aad.archives.gov/aad/series-list.jsp?cat=GP23

Then you will need to fill out a SF180 and send in to get the records, it is found here:

http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/public/index.html

Beyond that, visit the research section on the main page here and it has other helpful links and tips.

If you are not next of kin and he has a surviving brother, sister, spouse or child they may have better luck than you at obtaining more of his records.  From what I understand non next of kin and other "interested" parties get little info.

Lastly see if you can find a section here in the forum that would pertain to where he was stationed or his type of unit and post this in there... there are a lot of helpful people here!!!

Vicky...Here is the 319th BG Association Contact. As the 345th Service Squadron was assigned to the 319th BG, this is one way to find information.
( I checked for the 310th Service Group with negative results).

Association contacts:

Joseph Madrano (secretary/treasurer)
5842 Winterhaven Dr.
Windcrest, TX 78239
Phone: (210) 654-6749

Reunion news: No current info. Of note they hold reunions with the 320th BG and 17th BW. Great way to consolidate resources and increase numbers, great idea!

Web sites:

http://www.319thbombgroup.com , a great web site with lots of information.

Vicky!
It was exciting to read your post as I have available some photos from 310th Service Group 345th Service Squadron from 1944, these photos showing both "men and machines". Please contact me by e-mail or PM via this site for more.
Have added sample photo here.
