Roy...According to Wallace Forman's B-17 Nose  Art and Name Directory, there were two "St Louis Woman"...one was in the 96th BG and the other was in the 100th BG.

44-8836 was only assigned to the 351st BS of the 100th BG. It was not assigned to the 96th BG.

The book by Roger Freeman and David Osborne does not have a cross-reference by name.

Do you have any information that would help to determine which Bomb group your father was actually assigned..such as a return address on a letter from him while overseas...there should be return address if such a letter still exists.

Please give as much information as you have available ....a statement that he was in the 8th AF is not enough....there were close to several hundred thousand persons in the 8th AF.

My father, Lt. Mike McCabe(deceased 4/26/05), 307th BG, 424th BS, was a Navigator based at Morotai. Mission dates ranged from 2/20/45-8/1/45.

Jim...The original question had to do with a "B-17"...in checking both of the Forman Books, it appears that there were two B-17s and two B-24s named "St Louis Woman".
 
B-17    96th and 100th BGs ..(both 8th AAF)
B-24    448th and 451st...(448th BG 8th AF, while 451st was 15th AAF).
 
OF course this does not mean that there weren't others, as only those recognized by the data information under the left pilot's sliding window are recognized officially.
 
I thnk it likely therefore that the B-17  "St Louis Woman" in question was of either the 96th or 100th BG.
