The mission occured on August 2nd and the report states that he was destroyed by his own bomb. What are you looking for specifically? Feel free to email me.

Thank you for your answer.
I would like to know more about the pilot the mission and to know if former pilots who flew this mission on that day are still alive.
Thank you.

Frank.

I emailed you, but it doesn't seem to have gotten through.

One pilot who was on the mission, Les Boze, is still alive, but his health is not so good. He had been Kern's roommate. I met him in 2003 at a 358th reunion. Kern was flying his wing when he went down. He reported that Kern was caught in the blast from his own bomb, which flipped his AC over and he could not recover control. Unfortunately, the memories of the Veterans, particularly about those who didn’t make it home have grown dim.

I have a photo that includes Kern up at http://www.creativefatcat.com/lobdell/Fourteen.html Kern is in the center with his arm on another pilots shoulder.   I am curious as to your interest in Charlie Kern, as I am looking for information on him as well. The group of fourteen pilots included my great Uncle who was one of the many who did not return home.   You can email me directly at P47tbolt With that at symbol and earthlink period net
