Alain..Are you sure about the MACR number ?  Roger Freeman and Daviod Osborne's The B-17 Flying  Fortress Story shows 42-30810 as assigned to the 96th BG/338 BS (BX-Y) and MIA Munich 18/3/44 w/Muirhead ,a/a,cr Freiburg.Ger. 3KIA, 7POW, MACR 3422....NOT 3522.

The 96th BG Association contact is Association contacts: Tom Thomas (membership) 96th Bomb Group Association contact 1607 East Willow Ave Wheaton IL 60187 E-mail: [url "mailto:stalagwest@aol.com.

The correct MACR number will give the relative's home addresses as of the date of the MACR,and will list the crew members with rank.

As most people of that time did not move as they do today, it will be likely that a relative will still be in thier respective home towns.

I suggest contacting the 96th BG Association for assistance.

Jim :-)

Alain,

Correct MACR number is 3422.  This MACR is posted on Footnote.com and is 42 pages long.  Pages seem to be out of order and the first few are poorly scanned.  Here is the 'first' page which is page 14 on footnote.  Best to view from the thumbnail which will enlarge and scroll, attachment will not scroll.  Hope this helps.

Alain,
Book Snetterton Falcons list this crew under New Crews Assigned Feb. 1944 to Snetterton.  Has brief account of events of aircraft going down from postwar testimony from MACR 3422 describing fate of crew. Can PM information to you if interested.

My dad was T/Sgt John I. McMillan, Jr.  (Top Turret).  The plane went down in or around the Black Forest.  My brother has visited the crash site and has spoken to witnesses of the crash.   I have extensive information about this crash and the crew.  Please feel free to email me with any questions.  (ceegee33@bellsouth.net)

Hey, I actually own that book, as well as a translation of it.  I have met Rolf; he came to Kentucky to visit my family a couple of years ago as he was writing his book.  Thanks so much.

Actually, for anyone interested, there is a photo on that web page of the "hunk o hell" with the crew standing in front of it.  I didn't realize Rolf had a website!!

My dad, John I. McMillan, Jr, is the third from the left on the top row.  I own this photograph, too, but it's cool to see it on the website!

Thanks again!

Sorry, i wanted to add ....I know for sure that the pilot, Frank Muirhead, is the second from the left on the bottom row in the photo above (if anyone is interested).
