My Dad flew b29s off Saipan during the war. I recently found information on his plane and crew. The data listed was: 73RD Bomb Wing, 500 Bomb Group, 883rd Bomb Squadron SQUARE 41 REPLACEMENT SER. #44.69868 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREW NUMBER 439 AIRCRAFT MISSIONS 27 PILOT AC 1/LT. KENNETH I. GUNNARSON COPILOT 1/LT. PHILIP B. TAYLOR BOMBARDIER 2/LT. JACOB C. ARMSTRONG FLT. ENG. 2/LT. GEORGE E. HORNE NAVIGATOR 2/LT. CHARLES B. SCHWELLENBACK RADIO SGT. GEORGE E. HILLMAN L. GUN. SGT. RUSSELL SPOONER R. GUN. CPL. AVON M. TAYLOR RING GUN. SGT. GLENN E. ZIESEMER RADAR 2/LT. DAVID S. Mc CLELIAN TAIL GUN. CPL. ALBERT J. THUNELL GROUND CREW M/SGT. ARNOLD P. LUTZ (CC), CPL. GEORGE T. LORENS, CPL. ROBERT B. EICHELBERGER, AND CPL. FRANK L. BENIEWICZ I just found a picture of his plane and it was Z56, serial no. 42-94001. The nose are was "MY PRIDE AND JOYE". Can anyone offer any confirming information about this plane or the discrepancy between Z41 and my data showinfd Z56? Thanks and happy new year, Bob Gunnarson

Bob...Bob Mann's The B-29 Superfortress shows 42-94001 as Z Square 56 (2). There were several aircraft that when lost or re-assigned, were number (1), (2), or even (3). 42-24743 is shown as Z Square 56, so 42-94001 was the second aircraft with the Z Square 56 . Could this be an explanation for your confusion ? Jim :-)
