A suggestion....please go to http://b-29.org This is a website for B-29rs of WW II and Korea. They would be the most likely source of information on B-29s. You can join the two lists on the website...one is for technical questions on the B-29 and the other is a general discussion list where it is not restricted to the B-29. Jim :-) WW II and Korea Vet.

Arron, According to Robert Mann, whose information is located at "The B-29 Superfortress, A Comprehensive Registry of the Planes and Their Missions", there were four aircraft which were Z 8 which could also be Z Square 8. This information can also be located at the web site, b-29.org. The four aircraft were: 42-24692 which was damaged 24 Nov 1944, repaired and later became Z 12; 42-24743 which was also damaged and repaired, later became Z 56; 42-24849 which was lost 17 March 1945 with the Fitzgerald crew; and 44-69829 "Duke of Albuquerque" which survived the war with 39 missions. This is the aircraft you were asking about. This information is on the left hand side of the web site under "73 BW Data". Ken Fine at finechateau@msn.com

Z8 history by 73rd historian, Bill Agee, attached. Ken's report from Bob Mann's book is semi-correct. If you need crew lists I will gladly send them. My Uncle, Lt Robert Copeland was killed on Z8, 42-24849, when accidentally rammed by Capt. Ogata. 2 crew managed to escape the doomed Superfortress but were subsequently beheaded. Find the full story at Sallyann's page that Jim Peters reccomended. "Copeland's Diary". Bill CAF main hangar Midland, Tx

Bill, I have tried to send you an e-mail about information you have on the 73rd. BW. It did not go through on two attempts. Could you please e-mail me at finechateau@msn.com? I would really appreciate if you provided me with your e-mail address. Sincerely, Ken Fine
