"Yahudi" 17th BG 37th BS 41-18207 crash pic - 01/17/2008 01:56:01 PM
Thought someone out there might want to see the picture of this downed B-26.  I have a couple more pics of it if you want to see them.

Thank you for sharing! Yehudi had B/N 40 and was in service with 37th BS from ultimo June 1943 until January 10th 1944, when it was taken out of service as war weary. The 17th BG was then at Villacidro, Sardinia. 17th BG had no mission on January 10th 1944.

A good shot of her nose art can be seen here: http://www.web-birds.com/12th/17/17.htm

When checking here http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbasn.asp?SN=41-18207&Submit4=Go this record says it had a forced landing due to engine failure on February 23rd 1944, maybe this photo shows that accident? It seems to have been flying with another 12th AF unit after it's service with 17th BG.

According to my records, 41-18207 "Yehudi" was declared "war weary" with the 17th BG, i.e, deemed unfit for further combat missions, but still in flyable condition. It was then transferred to the Free French, who used this aircraft as a trainer based with 1BTS at Telergma, Algeria. It was with this unit that the aircraft was forced down following an engine failure on 23rd February 1944. The pilot is listed as Robert H Wickward, presumably an American instructor with that unit.
Would love to see the other pictures, if you don't mind sharing them with us. We may be able to provide information on those as well.
Regards & best wishes

Forgot to mention that "Yehudi" was declared war weary by the 17th BG on 10th January 1944.
